Trump announced the opening at the site. The contemporaneous Associated Press report independently describes the reopening after repairs. Reopening does not establish that every renovation claim is correct.
Trump attributed the failed liner to extensive slashing. The Justice Department's dismissal motion, reviewed by FactCheck.org, attributes the June damage to a rushed, flawed contractor installation rather than the alleged vandalism. Reports of people handling already peeling material do not substantiate the claimed cause.
Trump repeated 'no tax on Social Security' on the South Carolina call. IRS guidance describes a temporary additional deduction of up to $6,000 per eligible person aged 65 or older, with an income phaseout; it did not repeal taxation of benefits for everyone. The deduction can reduce or eliminate an eligible person's liability, but the blanket wording omits those limits.
Trump stated this as a conditional future promise in the Reflecting Pool speech. No enacted or funded payment program establishes that outcome. House Speaker Mike Johnson said the proposed payments need congressional approval; an election result alone cannot guarantee them. The forecast remains unverified rather than treated as a current payment.
Transcript audit
These full-text records were checked for testable factual claims. A verdict appears above only when corroborating evidence supports one.
Bottom line
Four Trump claims are assessed: one Supported, one False, one Misleading and one Unresolved. The pool reopened, while the official account of the liner failure contradicts the alleged vandalism cause. A senior deduction is narrower than blanket Social Security tax elimination, and the conditional $5,000 payment lacks authorization. Eight complete Trump-participation transcripts were accessible; the Georgia call has only a partial public recording.
