What the evidence supports
Canada was allowing millions of immigrants into the country essentially unchecked and unvetted.
The core proposition that entrants were essentially unvetted is directly contradicted by Canada's published procedures: immigration officers assess every applicant, permanent and temporary resident applications undergo security and criminality checks, and higher-risk cases receive further review. Large immigration volumes in earlier years do not make the screening system nonexistent. Canada's 2026 plan reduced new temporary-resident targets and set a 380,000 permanent-resident target. A September 23 Statistics Canada release counted 368,224 new permanent immigrants in the year to July 2026 and a decline of 154,614 in the number of non-permanent residents; these are different measures and do not establish a total for every kind of arrival.
