Associated Press reporting confirms the appointment, effective date, succession, Scharf's staff-secretary role and his prior representation of Trump in cases that reached the Supreme Court. The assessment covers the announced appointment and documented roles, not Trump's opinions about either lawyer.
Republicans made real gains with Black and Hispanic voters in 2024, but the current evidence does not show both groups flocking to the GOP. Pew's 2026 affiliation data still gives Democrats large leads among Black adults (73% to 14%) and Hispanic adults (57% to 29%), and says both groups shifted modestly away from Republicans since 2025. AP-NORC also finds Hispanic approval of Trump fell from 41% early in his term to 29% in June. The historical note that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican is accurate but does not establish the claimed present movement.
Clinton's Financial Times essay said no alternative framework was waiting and that even she could accept Trump's plan as the best option in a terrible situation. The repost compresses her qualified argument but accurately represents the central position and quotation.
Labor Department weekly data reported 199,000 seasonally adjusted initial claims after 198,000 and 189,000 in the two preceding weeks. That is three consecutive readings below 200,000, a run not recorded since 1969. The figures concern new unemployment-insurance claims and do not by themselves measure all unemployment or the pace of hiring.
Transcript audit
The reviewed calendar did not link a public transcript for this date. This edition must not be treated as a complete review of everything Trump may have said privately or on another platform.
Bottom line
August 9 produced four responsibly assessable Trump claims: three Supported and one Misleading. The appointment, Clinton quotation and weekly jobless-claims streak were documented. The assertion that Black and Brown voters are flocking to Republicans overstates current affiliation and approval data. No public Trump appearance or full Trump-participation transcript was located for the date.
